AI Image Detector — Is This Photo AI-Generated?

DeepFakeCheck's AI image detector helps you review whether a photo may have been generated or edited by AI. Upload a JPG, PNG, or WebP file (up to 50 MB) to inspect Content Credentials, pixel signals and visual evidence. No signup is required; service usage limits apply, and results are triage evidence rather than proof of authenticity.

How AI image detection works here

We separate available evidence into up to three layers. Each layer catches a different class of AI-generated images, and unavailable signals are not treated as negative evidence:

  • C2PA and metadata inspection. The original file is checked locally for signed Content Credentials. Validity, signer trust and declared source are shown separately. Unsigned EXIF or XMP strings are only hints and never trigger an automatic AI verdict.
  • Pixel-level artifact analysis. A dedicated image detector can add a separate pixel signal from the original upload. Compression and resizing can erase this signal, so a low detector score never proves that an image is real.
  • Compositional reasoning. The model also evaluates whether the image as a whole "makes sense" — physically implausible compositions are a common giveaway for Midjourney and Sora.

What kinds of AI images we can detect

The analysis looks for patterns associated with common generators such as Midjourney, DALL·E, Stable Diffusion, Flux, Firefly and Imagen. Coverage varies by generator and editing history. Screenshots, heavy JPEG compression and social-platform resizing remove important forensic traces and should be treated as lower-confidence inputs.

Image detection FAQ

How accurate is the AI image detector? There is no honest single accuracy number across generators, edits and platforms. Original files preserve the most evidence; heavily compressed, screenshotted or photographed-from-a-screen images are much harder. Always review the independent evidence and uncertainty instead of relying on the score alone.

Can it detect AI face swaps in photos? It may surface face-boundary or lighting inconsistencies, but subtle face swaps can evade automated detectors. Use the result for triage and seek specialist review for high-stakes cases.

Does it work on screenshots? It works on screenshots, but the signal is weaker. If you have the original file, use that instead — uncompressed PNG or original JPEG gives the best result.

Will my image be stored? No. The image is processed only for the current analysis request and is not retained by DeepFakeCheck. We do not train models on user uploads.

How is the result structured? Signed provenance, unsigned metadata hints, dedicated pixel signals and visual-model reasoning remain separate. One weak or missing signal is never presented as proof that the image is authentic.
